Questions 1: What is your current position, in which field/company and in which country? Answer:
In my current role at a design software company in South Korea, I've been working as a growth marketer specializing in SEO and Google Ads.
Questions 2: Tell us briefly about your work journey? (graduation -> job positions/country/fields/how many years) Answer:
My work journey started with an internship abroad during my bachelor's degree at a well-known German company in Seoul. This turned into a long-term internship that continued throughout my bachelor's and master's degrees.
After graduating, I worked as a product marketer and SEO specialist at an SEO marketing agency, where I gained extensive experience in all aspects of Search.
Later, I joined a fintech company as a Search specialist, and after two years, I moved to my current position, where I use my skills as a growth marketer, focusing on SEO and Google Ads.
Questions 3: How did you find this job? (what methods or tools did you use) Answer:
I primarily use LinkedIn for job searching, but I also value recommendations from friends and connections, that's actually how I found my current job. If a friend suggests a job and is already working there, I can trust the company and its employees.
Additionally, I recommend exploring local job websites like for example Saramin in South Korea. Surprisingly, foreigners in South Korea can also find job offers on Craigslist. I have actually found good job opportunities there in the past.
Questions 4: What were the main challenges in finding this job and how did you overcome them? / What are the main lessons learned? Answer:
In my current job, the challenges were relatively fewer compared to my past experiences. I had to meet the qualifications and successfully pass multiple interview stages. With several years of experience, finding a job has become somewhat easier.
However, landing the first job right after graduation was the most challenging, especially due to language barriers and the need for a working visa sponsor. Meeting the requirements for a working visa, such as relevant work experience or a local master's degree, is crucial.
Fortunately, my degree was aligned with the jobs I applied for, and previous internships and part-time job experiences proved invaluable during the application and interview process.
Questions 5: Any tips and advice for people who are looking for a job now? Answer:
My advice is to take action and start applying for jobs without waiting for the perfect opportunity. While some people may find success that way, if you want to secure a job quickly, it can be better to begin today rather than tomorrow. If a job doesn't feel right during the interview process, you can always decline it.
When I was searching for my first job, I applied to numerous companies and attended multiple interviews before finding the right fit. Even in my later career stages, I interviewed with several companies to ensure the best option for my professional growth.
In addition to applying to various companies, gaining work experience is highly beneficial. As a new graduate, any work experience can be an advantage. Ideally, try to obtain relevant experience through internships or part-time jobs in your desired field.
Lastly, networking is invaluable. If you have acquaintances in companies or industries that interest you, don't hesitate to seek their advice or ask for recommendations. Connections can be a valuable asset in your job search.
